Paddy Duffy Award 2018

The Paddy Duffy Award was established in 2002 by the principal officers of Boys & Girls Clubs to support the values, style and approach of Paddy Duffy – a much loved and highly regarded voluntary youth leader and vice-president of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Paddy epitomised many of the personal qualities that are characteristic of good youth workers and fair play for all.

This year’s recipient of the Paddy Duffy Award is Cliodhna Liggett from Newtownabbey. Cliodhna has spent six years on the Youth Council which emphasises leadership and is ran by young people like Cliodhna to represent the views of young people to government and decision-makers and to promote participation of young people in society.

Cliodhna will use the Paddy Duffy Award bursary to help continue her education by paying towards fees.

Jackie Maxwell Presidents Award 2018

Boys & Girls Clubs would like to congratulate Ben Nelson on winning the Jackie Maxwell Award 2018.

The Jackie Maxwell Award is reflective of the work, commitment and dedication of Jackie Maxwell – a respected, selfless voluntary worker, who touched the hearts of many both on and off the football pitch. He was also a highly esteemed soccer club manager and vice-president of Boys & Girls Clubs.  Jackie’s passion was youth football and  he encouraged young people to participate in all sports and to strive for success!

This year’s recipient of the award is Ben Nelson from Townland Boxing Club, Glenavy. Ben has been boxing with the club for eight years and has a very strong commitment to the sport. He has mentored and coached many younger boxers and over-seen many community projects within Townland Boxing Club.

Ben will use the Jackie Maxwell Award bursary to help assist with training, accommodation and travel costs for his upcoming boxing tournament ‘The Black Forest Cup’ in Germany. We would all like to wish Ben the best of luck in the competition.

Presentation of Awards 2018

Boys & Girls Clubs would like to send a big congratulations to all the young people who received awards and certificates at our Presentation of Awards during last nights AGM.

It was a fantastic night recognising and celebrating young people across Northern Ireland’s participation and achievements throughout a diverse range of projects and programmes including our CycleWise programme, Youth Council and Leadership Development program.

During the year we reached 14,568 young people and volunteers and it was great to hear some stories about the impact Boys & Girls has on our young people as well as taking some time to celebrate all their achievements and hard work they have put into activities they are interested in.

If you want involved or hear about any upcoming programme or project that you or your youth club can get involved contact us on 028 9066 3321 or e-mail post@boysandgirlsclubs.net.
